Malawi #Flooding Update

Urgent update via one of my Pastor friends in Malawi, Pastor Willard Muwalo from Zambezi Evangelical Church.

As of 13 January this is the rainy season in Malawi and much rain is normally expected, however no-one expected this…48 people confirmed dead.

Latest Updates are that we’ve heard this shocking news; “The whole village known as Manyowa in Nsanje is gone with over 100 people feared dead. Can Malawians of good will mobilize whatever resources, blankets, maize, rice, beans etc…”

President Peter Mutharika has declared Malawi a state of disaster over districts affected by floods following a heavy downpour in most parts of the country. In a statement made available to Malawi24, President Mutharika has also appealed for humanitarian support from the international and donor community.

“We have a flooding problem in the country which has affected a considerable number of our fellow citizens. Since most of the areas are inaccessible and considering the large number of displaced households, additional resources are required to provide assistance to all the affected people.

Some parts of the country, especially in the Southern Region, have experienced a lot of heavy rainfall since last week.

This rainfall has resulted in heavy flooding in some districts. The worst affected districts are Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe and Zomba where a lot of people’s houses and household property have been damaged rendering the affected households displaced. Some people have also lost their lives as a result of the floods”.

What can you do?

President Peter Mutharika; “I appeal for humanitarian assistance, from the International donor community, the relevant United Nations agencies, the Non Governmental Organizations, the local private sector as well as all fellow citizens of goodwill, so that, together, we can contribute in alleviating suffering on the part of people affected by the floods. Tents and food (and finances) are urgently required. Rescue operations are also a priority.”

“RAN” Update August

Educate & Empower Africa

What we do is Where we are – When you partner with us, it’s YOU changing a life & you doing the work with us. Changing & Touching Africa, one life at a time.

Thank you so much.

110 orphans that need your help.
I took this picture on our last trip. These kids…I can’t put into words how great the need…110 orphans that need your help. (Clothes; Food; Clean Water; Sport Equipment; Teachers Salaries.)

Imagine in your boardroom; study or even in your kitchen at home, is a picture of an actual village in rural Africa that you helped? Having it visible for others to see, to show the lives you are touching and inspire others to “give back” and do the same.

You and your friends taking hands and bringing change:

  • Life skills training (Dale Carnegie principles)
  • Feeding (children and rural communities)
  • Bore-holes and well-points (Water to villages in need.)
  • Orphans (basic needs of children and teachers)
  • Church planting
  • Bible School training…

This is an update on where we stand at the moment as Reaching Africa Now (RAN) and an update on Malawi in general.

Good News is that we are soon “RAN Outreach”!

Coming soon:

Do you have a heart for Africa or the needy?

Points for conversation:

There to two major things happening at the moment in Africa:

  • Ground breaking technological discoveries; enormous economical potential and global powers known and unknown are scrambling to solidify themselves into partnerships and relationships to claim their “slice of the pie”, of our waking African Continent.
  • On the other hand, Africa is riddled with great corruption local and foreign, while their own people suffer in hunger and disease and the “few get richer”.

Imagine for the next 30 days you & your children surviving of $1 a day?

Send/Share this on Social networks or with a friend?

“About half of Malawi’s 15 million people live on less than $1 a day, according to the International Monetary Fund. The country is Africa’s top exporter of burley tobacco…”

For those who are wondering what’s going to be happening in 2014? I am planning trips on a “Project Basis”. One Project will most likely be Drilling; Feeding; Teaching; Planting; Building

50kg bags of maize

I remember on my last trip seeing those 110+ orphans literally with nothing…the teachers teaching for a year already with NO salary. They just arrive to teach each day just because they love the children.

I remember seeing the old lady dancing next to me and giving me a big kiss when we arrived to drill the borehole…as in here 80+ years, she’s had to collect water from far away and she’s seen the health repercussions of fetching water from a dirty water source.

I remember eating with the locals as seeing how blessed they were to just share with me what they had…even if it meant slaughtering one of their few chickens to honor their guest.

I remember traveling for hours in the Malawi heat to get 1.6 tons of maize to villages to deliver a very special “Hippo Roller” to a community….the list goes on.

WHEN I do all this…through your gift and support you are literally with us in spirit doing the work and changing lives!

♦ HERE is an opportunity for Partnership or to “Give Back/Social Responsibility:

  • …monthly support
  • …help us reach the goal of $4000, 00 per Project.

The support above has been broken down on previous posts of mine in many ways where a person can Partner for only $10, 00 and still make a difference.

“Many people doing something small will make a big difference.”

Each doing something small

No baggage allowed!

Thank you for your prayers and support in 2013! We’ve seen many lives changed and this is just the beginning!
Paul who wrote two thirds of the new testament of the Bible told us how he lives. He told us his approach to life and I think we can all learn from this great and influential man:
• “…one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,” Phil. 3:13

I believe that 2014 is the year of the “Promised Land“. That means we will step into the great things we’ve been waiting for a long time. The giants in the land were those attacks from 2013 that we faced. We have conquered, we are going in:
• “..Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee…” Gen.  12:1

Out of these two points above, I see the following for 2014:
Forget what’s behind and reach forward
Get out of the 2013 mentality because in 2014 we must have a fresh approach to achieve new things.
Exit 2013 and leave it behind. Don’t drag challenges; attacks and worries with you. We should enter 2014 with a sign; “No baggage allowed!”

We endeavor to keep on praying for you our partners and friends. Thank you for your continued support in 2014 and one thing you can be sure of, we are expecting big things for you and your families and our work in Africa!

Bellow are some images from our latest trip to Malawi where we gave out 1.6 tons of maize; did leadership development and drilled bore-wholes to give people clean water. There is a love of work still needed…

My dear friends and family, I finally understand what Paul was saying when he said in Galatians 6:11; “See what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand!”

It is a few days before I leave for Malawi. I have such a passion in my heart for the people there. I don’t want to do a program or “network”. I don’t want to “take nice pictures” and I don’t want an African holiday. I am leaving what I know here and my dear family to see how I can reach the people of Malawi.

You’ve known my heart and it starts here and now…R.A.N. needs your support and prayers. Do what’s in your hand to do. This is NOT me asking for money. This is an opportunity to change a life! You can’t necessarily go, but you can join me in partnering today.

Where are the opportunities? Choose the option that speaks to you. What’s in your hand right now?

  • Choose to go to my previous post and make this your computer/tablet wallpaper for others to see (to spread the word).
  • Just $20/R200/€15 will make a difference! In Uganda the people live off $2 per day. In Malawi people live on $1 a day!
  • Fund a village ($1000 or more) and name your boardroom after the village reached

Just a few days, and counting, for us to Reach Africa again, by reaching Malawi first!

To see this great opportunity where YOU could help and get involved…please see this clip and share it?

At this moment we are urgently trusting for the resources to reach as many villages as possible. See in this clip how you and your family could make a difference today! We also are trusting for the rental of a 4X4 to see ‘head-men’ (Local Chiefs) in the area to plan future work…

YES! Exciting News – Reach Malawi

“Love is doing small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa

“All difficult things have their origin in that which is easy, and great things in that which is small.” – Unknown

The quotes above are what touch my heart at the moment. We all want to “save the world” (Africa) and it is so easy to do this by each of us doing something small.

 70 Kids Needs help

“Many people doing something small will make a big difference.” – Coenie van Niekerk

We are all so busy with life. I want to challenge us to STOP for this brief moment and see through this window of change. How many people are in your family? My challenge is, for each of your family members, to give a Christmas gift to a child in Malawi this November. Example: If you are 4 in a family, consider supporting and sponsoring 4 kids. ($20.00/R200.00 per child)

In partnership with Element Hair Sonthofen; Clean Water for Malawi & The Bay Christian Family Church we are also drilling water wells in Blantyre, Malawi. (Sponsor a well today for only $4000.00)

RAN Boardroom Project:

RAN Boardroom

Support us through your organization with the amount of $1500.00 or more and we will send you an image of the village you have reached (Frame excluded). Name your boardroom after the village reached (Example: “Mpemba Room”) and thus showing your clients; partners and staff that you are an organization that “gives back” and empowers Africa. (Click on image above)

We believe to also reach the “street children” and do much more… As a family legacy or organization; two things establishes your presence all over the world:

  1. Your prayers
  2. Your finances/partnership

Great News! November Opportunity!

So I bring great news with this update! We are drilling our first water-well in Malawi in October-November 2013! Thank you so much for all your prayers and support! We are excited about our Partnership with Clean Water for Malawi!

David Livingstone: “People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Can that be called a sacrifice which is simply paid back as a small part of a great debt owing to our God, which we can never repay?

Special THANK YOU to:

  • Element Hair Sonthofen “Water-Well from Germany to Malawi!” We wouldn’t have been able to do this without you!

Thank You

  • Special honor to Dr. Allan and Pastor Janine Bagg our dear “Dad and Mom” in the Lord. (The Bay Christian Family Church / Allan Bagg Ministries) and our friends Leon and Zania Schoeman.
  • Our family and friends that supported us from the beginning! There is NO such thing as ‘small’ or ‘large’ contribution or support! Every word of encouragement; every seed sown; every R/$/€…and word in prayer spoken we appreciate more than you will ever understand!

Other things we will be doing in November as well:

  • – Meeting with the Directors of the organizations that we are going to work with in drilling water-wells and building schools/churches.
  • – Visit and minster at Mpemba Detention Center like we did last year. (We would like to supply the kids with gift hampers again for Christmas 2013 [Stationary; clothes; sport equipment…]

Malawi Water Facts & Story

When last did you have a glass of water? Next time you drink water, think about it when you leave the water running a bit. It might be in the garden or by the pool? People here where we work…struggle and work daily for a sip of water. Then the water they get, is dirty! Imagine giving your child water to drink that a pig just did it’s “business” in?

We have seen it with our own eyes. LET THESE WORDS PLEASE REACH YOU…you can make a difference this year still! We urgently need support to get us to Malawi to have a well dug. We have the finances now for the well, we just need to get there and see to logistics.

Support us today with any amount?

On my last trip into Malawi, the Chief of a village said to me; “When we are home, (in the village…) we get sick from drinking from the spring where we have to share water with pigs… The only time we get clean water is when we go to hospital…then we come home and repeat the cycle again.”

  • 30,000 people die every year in Malawi from issues caused by dirty water.
  • Globally, almost 1 billion people lack clean drinking water. In Africa, 300,000 million people lack clean water. UNDP
  • Every year there are 4 billion cases of diarrhea as a direct result of drinking contaminated water – resulting in 2.2 million deaths each year. WHO
  • Households in rural Africa spend an average of 26% of their time fetching water, walking about 3.75 miles, and it is generally women who are burdened with the task. DFID

  • Population: 15.8 million
  • 85% live in rural areas

Great News! “1Well_1Church”

Partner today?
Clean Water for Malawi

We have great news! A full water-well has been completely funded by our partners in Germany! “A well from Germany for Malawi.” All it took was one company that allowed staff and customers to make small donations for about 6 months…and it’s done! What’s in your power to do?

We are working at logistics now and are trusting that the well will be dug in 2013 or early 2014!

Logistics involves:
– Going to Malawi to oversee the process to survey for clean drinking water.
– Finalizing and picking the location for the well.
– Meeting with community leaders to insure protection and upkeep for the well.

• This is why we need your continual prayer and support. This is our urgent request for help where you can. Word of mouth is very powerful! We need to go on this trip as soon as possible and we will go as soon as we have all the resources we need.

Including travel costs expenses, we would like to take Bibles; study material for children; sandals; food and whatever we can carry… This is estimated at about $1000.00 that we need by July/August 2013!
Personal seed $50.00
Family seed $100.00
Organization seed $1000.00

We would like to go September or towards end of October and time is of the essence. Do what you can to help?
Pray for us daily
Assist us with resources
Partner financially (Big or small…)
Forward this email to friends (it will change lives)
Share our blog (below) on Social Media? (“like”; “tweet”; “share”; “pin”…)

• Our Word we stand on is:
“He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.” (Ps. 1:3 NKJV) With clean water comes the open door to reach our ultimate goal; “Educate & Empower” / “One Well – One Church” / “Water with Living Water”.
We are all partners in this, no matter how you can get involved. “So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.” (1 Corinthians 3:7)

Thank you for your support today! Pls.  share/like/tweet/pin…?

– “The world’s population is growing by about 80 million people a year, implying increased freshwater demand of about 64 billion cubic meters a year.”
– “Water and sanitation issues affect not only health but poverty, education, and gender issues among others.”
– “The average container for water collection in Africa, the jerry can weighs over 40 lbs when full.” (Being carried by woman all over Africa each day!)
– “Nearly 1 out of every 5 deaths under the age of 5 worldwide is due to a water-related disease.” (You might say; ‘Ye but that’s Africa…my kids are ok here…’ BUT what if one of those little precious children was yours? I would mean the world!)

Dream – Plan – Expect

It’s about time that I send an update isn’t it?
(Pls. take 5min’s to read this?)

Reaching Africa Now is a call from God and He knows His plans for us. Being full-time in the ministry here at “The Bay” is keeping us very busy. However the call is burning and I trust we will get back to Malawi soon!

We are excited as we might join with another Mission group to go train in Kenya in July…”Reaching Africa” as He leads us.

Reach Africa

Matters of Praise; Prayer and Support

Short Term:
– I praise God as He has supplied us with a laptop and blessed us with an “ISP” that greatly helps us and supports us by supplying us with all the online access that we’ll ever need and we can do a lot of researching etc. (The home office getting along now nicely) Pls. be praying for us for the monthly home office expenses to always be met and to have more than enough for every good work.

Medium Term:
– “Watch this Space” as we are planning a trip to Malawi again as soon as the Lords supply manifests. I need to go a bit longer than Kerrin as I need to go to Lilongwe as well… We are trusting our God for the airfare and accommodation and an additional $1000.00 for outreach purposes.

Long Term:
– Drilling a water well in a village in Blantyre is a priority. We know our God is big and R40 000 per Well is easy for Him. We are aware of a lot of logistics around this and trust God for His wisdom as well! (Surveying for water etc…) If we save the finances for two wells, approx. R90 000 then we can buy our own brand new rig that hooks onto a 4X4. Imagine us as R.A.N. digging our own water wells…do it Lord.
– Joined with the point above, we believe that our God has given us a Toyota Fortuner for expeditions especially water drilling…thank you for keeping us in your prayers.

Missions 4x4 fortuner

There’s so much in our hearts, I can go on and on… See our website for more info?

“We are Reaching Africa Now, one person at a time.” and “a Lot of people doing something small will make a big difference.” We are so excited as our family and friends in Germany are already well underway towards “Giving a Well from Germany to Malawi” and another possible partnership from France

  • It is almost month 5 of 2013. If the Lord leads you, we are asking for Prayer and Support and there an opportunity for you to sow/give back into Gods work.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Gal. 6:10

One Step Closer

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”  – Dale Carnegie

We have this great news to share:

As you know, one of our goals is “10 Wells in 2013”. Well, we have received the first cheque from our friends in Germany “Element Hair Sonthofen”. They are running a project “a Well from Germany to Malawi” and are well underway.

We appreciate all our Partners and want to reassure, that ALL resources and finances will go straight into getting those Wells done in Malawi and Africa and reaching those villages. Pls. pray with us for wisdom and that we will find favor with local government and companies that will partner with us?

We have worked out; (roughly) if…:

60 people give €60.00

66 people give $60.00

100 people give R350.00

…then a well is paid!

“There’s no such thing as a self made man.” – Unknown

Through “Word of Mouth” and organizations pulling together, “10 Wells” is easy. The question is, what can you do right now? It all starts with the person reading this post/letter. Call a friend; arrange a meeting; typing an email…take that next step! We have friends/partners in France doing exactly that at the moment and “a Well from France” is in the pipeline as well!

Water for Africa
When you had your last cup of water, did you think of those who have to walk hours each day..for contaminated water? It’s all they have!

To Park or Not to Park

How many times have you been in this place?

You’re at the Mall looking for parking and you say to yourself; “today I will park close to the door…” and you end up waiting or driving around for “the spot” that you set your mind on. When in actual fact it only saves you a 100m walk or 1 minute longer if you took that first one anyway. Not to mention you might be able to use that bit of extra exercise and walk and you can do without extra stress about “fighting for that spot”.

All of us have been there and I’m teasing you a bit but what I want to mention is Perspective or Understanding, if we could just step away every now and then and get some perspective.

We sometimes get frustrated in traffic or get impatient so quickly. We might have excuses for bad choices we’ve made and opportunities missed but look at this:

David Livingstone traveled twenty-nine thousand miles— the equivalent to walking across America almost ten times. Two million people heard the Gospel, and the light of Christ came into that “dark continent”.

Challenge Yourself Now

This gives us a new angle of looking at our lives. Who are you reaching today? Can you reach one person today? Challenge yourself, yes you can. You can actually reach more than one by partnering with others and letting your finances or resources work with rather than being too focus in “self”.

Think about this:
God is always present everywhere in the world (“Omnipresence“) and there are two things that can make you omnipresent (NOT that I am insinuating that we are or can even come close to be God):
1- In your Prayers
2- In your Finances

These two ways you can step out into “all the world” and make a difference. Choose one of these ways today and join us to reach a person each day this year? See our website for info. and goals for 2013!

Livingstone’s Work (Basic break-down that will blow you away):
• 29 000 miles travelled = 46 671km
• Compare this with the 7 189km = Distance from Cairo to Cape Town as the crow flies.
• Circumference of the earth at the equator = 40,075.16 km or 24,901.55 miles
• By the end he reached approx. 2 million people from 1841 setting his feet in the Cape until 1 May 1873 (32 years) he reached 62 500 people per year or 171 people per day with the Gospel until he died. (Mostly by foot)

You’ll find this image interesting:

Map of his travels

It’s basically month 2 of 2013 and time is moving forward! Consider working with us and Reaching Africa by choosing monthly support… Wherever you are today, whatever you are doing at this moment, there are people struggling to get clean water. There are people you need your help.  We are calling on organizations; churches and families to meet together. As one, we can only do so much, but together we can do it a lot quicker…

(We might be shifting our focus from getting someone else to drill a well, to buying a portable rig and start drilling ourselves…this will be a lot more cost effective in the future!)

2013 Reaching Africa Now (Year of Grace & Favor)

Mike Murdock:

“When your heart decides the destination, your mind will design the map to reach it.”

2013 is here! We Pray and Believe that this will be an amazing year for you!

Don’t make a “new year’s resolution”, make a quality decision and possibly one to Reach a family in Africa.

We are so humbled; blessed…and so excited! We have stirring in our hearts (the goal) 10 Wells & 10 Villages in Malawi in 2013 and we have doors opening in other African countries as well (To reach)! “All things are possible to them that believe”.

We have well underway our first well for 2013 for a remote village in Malawi. It is an initiative of “a Well from German for Malawi” (by “Element Hair Sonthofen”: ).

Water for Malawi from Germany
Water for Malawi from Germany

We want to challenge your Country/Organization represented in Partnership, to give a Well in 2013. (9 spots left) or choose to support a village.

Pls. pray for us and consider supporting us monthly, as you and your family/organization can make a big difference by each, doing something small today. As in our previous updates on our site, we also have “Village Plus” where we are looking to reach 10 Villages and our ongoing “Love Sandals” project and project “Well-Done”.

What we’ve been able to do in 2012 through your partnership:

(Namibia with “Co-Mission Expedition” & TBN & Malawi)

Reached seven remote villages with food and the Gospel.

Ministered to one “Village School”

Ministered and gave gifts to one Juvenile Detention Center/Orphanage.

Trip to Malawi, Blantyre

Highlights and Lowlights (Why we do this):

Days and hours of 4X4’ing through rugged African bush and desert.

Saving the lives of a couple lost in the Africa bush (on one of our trips).

Seeing the little 9 year old girl with a 4 week old baby strapped to her back…crying.

Breaking new ground in Malawi. (Mpemba & Mfura)

4X4 breaking, in the bush and overcoming challenges.

Running a Christmas project in Malawi (Mpemba)

Meeting and ministering to various African Chiefs.

Ministering to the Himba tribes.

..and so much more…
We are praying for our Partners and Connections!

Reaching Africa Now – RAN

As you know, we pray for our “Partners/Connections” daily. After started meditating on this scripture, I realized that the Lord lead me to Psalm 18 on the 18th of November. We serve a creative creator!

When you were young, did your mom/dad ever stop you to say, “Stop, slowly…taste your food…” Well, I want to ask you to do that today. There is so much noise these days… “Stop, slowly…taste the Word of the Lord and His Goodness today..”

This is the Word of the Lord to us today:

– Have this attitude and heart in you:

vs1 “I love you, Lord; you are my strength.”

– How many facets of God do you count below of what He has done/been for/to us? (I count at least 10…) Stop…and thank Him now:

vs2 “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my saviour; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.”

The rest of the Psalm will so bless you…if you can, take some time and eat and digest only a small piece more…even if it tastes like vegetables…it will be good for you. 😉

Malawi Update

– We are trusting that we will hear from and finalize arrangements for Mpemba (see previous posts) this week.

– We are just waiting for one or two more pledges to come in and we thus have all 70 pairs of sandals paid for! There still is an opportunity if you and your family wants to get involved. ($2/R17 for a pair of sandals on a child’s feet in Africa this Christmas!)

– We have received all the postage (Airmail) fees!

– All we need to finalize is how to get the “Goodies” to Mpemba…this is Shoprite depending.

Concerning the above, we pray for you and KNOW that as God used our friends and partners, we would NOT have been able to do this project without you. The Lord knows who you are and your reward is on its way and treasures are being heaped up in Heaven!

Our Pledge (Please NOTE):

We will do our best to get proper photographs/feedback on this project. Note that this is a “Prison” facility for young kids and we are thus not allowed to actually take pictures of them. It is now stirring in my heart to go to Malawi for a few days to be there for the hand-over…if my Lord wants me there..He will make a way…

Warning: We Praise God for your Prayer & Support! The Lord told me this week: “Many people doing something small, can make a big difference.” So again, whether you could share on social networks or email; by word of mouth; prayer or financial contribution “small” or “great”…we have you locked in prayer and you have a great reward breaking through even now..!

Thank you for your continued support as we have a lot of projects that we will launch in 2013 to Reach Malawi!

It’s a JOY to be connected to you! 🙂
